I love this iconic scene from Sex and the City where Carrie Bradshaw cleans out her closet. Nuff' said.
Spring is coming (or so I keep telling myself...this weather is NJ is giving me whiplash). It's time to take advantage and purge, purge, purge! So what better way to clean out your closet than making some moneyyyyyy. That's extra cash in your pocket....or some fresh new looks in your closet. You choose.
Here are 5 ways to make money while cleaning out your closet:
I've been using Poshmark for about 6 years now and it is, by far, the easiest app. It takes me about 1-2 minutes to snap a picture, enter a description, set a price and post on my page. I don't use it to its full extent but I still love it and have made money doing so! If you're interested in shopping my closet, link is in my sidebar!
Thred Up is basically an online consignment shop where you can either shop or sell your clothes. What I love about this format is that Thred Up does all the work for you. Order a kit, send your clothes and they take care of the rest! You just get paid! If you're not into sending your clothes through the mail, try your local consignment shop!
Tradesy is a bit different than other platforms, because of how you make money. Tradesy deducts a flat rate commission for sales under $50 and a % rate on sales over $50. So it's great if you have higher end, luxury items! Just order a shipping kit and they do the work!
Decluttr is not app for clothes BUT I felt this is important if you're cleaning out other areas of your home. Decluttr is for DVDs, books, games and technology. You can find about every movie on either Netflix, Hulu, HBO, or Amazon. I also had so many unused phones from the past 10+ years that I was able to sell on this app. All you have to do is enter your items into the app and a total will populate of how much you'll get back. Pack and send your items with the pre-paid label Decluttr sends you and get paid!
5. Clothing Swap Event
I've never actually been to one but I've heard great things about how fun it actually is. Tell your ladies to bring some items and host a swap event! One man's trash is another man's treasure. Okay, maybe not trash but ya know what I mean! Basically, everyone brings unwanted items in good condition to the party and you swap between other people. You can charge a cover charge and donate to a charity or donate whats leftover to a charity. You can set some guidelines, or don't. Just have fun!
